Ken McElroys Advice for Getting Started in Real Estate
I think that if you can find a great duplex, like on a house hack situation, I think that’s a great way to start. Why wouldn’t you have a tenant pay for your own living? And then if it comes with an acre piece of land and you can build four more units, then I would do that. And then at the same time, maybe I throw a hundred grand into something else. And so for me, it all has to do with the deal itself and the math. I’ve had a series of all kinds of stuff. I bought billboards. I still own a couple development, land development. I’ve done duplexes, fourplexes, condo projects, condo conversions. And so for me, I’m just always like, I’m just kind of a deal guy. And I always stay grounded to the math itself. So the math works and I usually move forward on it.
